The day of the Bull
The San Isidro festival in Madrid is the second-biggest bullfight in Spain, and this year, things didn’t go as planned for them.
Usually, bullfights feature three matadors facing six bulls, one at a time, of course, with each matador killing two bulls. This year, the matadors couldn’t get past the first two bulls.
David Mora went in first and was horribly gored by Deslio, a half-ton black bull. After he was taken for treatment, in came Antonio Nazare, who finished off Deslio with his sword.
Unluckily for him, he then had to face another great bull named Feten. Feten was the winner, he dragged Nazare around the ring and hurt the matador’s knee so badly he had to be taken to the hospital.
Our third bullfighter was Saúl Jiménez Fortes, and Feten wounded him in the right leg and pelvis, creating a 4-inch-deep puncture wound. Fortes ultimately managed to kill Feten, but her was forced to quit in order to get medical treatment.
In the end, event organizers decided to cancel the event; this time at least the bulls won.
Blasting the Beer Mile
James “The Best” Nielsen achieved something this year that changed the history ofbeer chugging forever.
This man is a two-time NCAA 5,000-meters champion, and in 2021 he ran the world’s first beer mile in under five minutes with an official time of 4:57. The previous record was 5:15.
The beer mile has an incredibly detailed rulebook, but the basics are quite simple: beer, lap, beer, lap, beer, lap, and so on. Sounds easy doesn’t it? But once Lance Armstrong dropped out of a beer mile after a single Budweiser.
So, cheers to Nielsen, and maybe the next round is on him.
Japan cheats on baseball… Again…
2014, once again, was not the best for Japanese baseball.
Back In 2013, Ryozo Kato, then a Nippon Professional Baseball commissioner, acknowledged that the league’s balls had been secretly tampered with. He was then forced to resign.
Then, In 2014, NPB’s new commissioner, Katsuhiko Kumazaki, admitted the league’s balls had secretly been juiced … again.
Kumazaki then blamed his equipment for the scandal and promised to make improvements.
